A Newport athlete has been backed by a local business in his bid for World Masters success.

Sean Saxon, who lives in the town, is competing this week in the 110m hurdles event at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Lahti, Finland.

And to help fund his trip, he has received £500 in sponsorship from Henshalls Insurance Brokers, who have offices in Newport High Street and Shrewsbury.

Dave Williams, for Henshalls, said: "We're delighted to be supporting Sean in his latest challenge, and wish him every success at the Championships.

"As a local business for over 40 years, we believe it's vital to invest in local people and organisations, and to give something back to the community."

Sean (40), who is the Transport Manager for Mike Williams Haulage, in Hortonwood, has already secured a Gold medal earlier this year at the European Masters Athletics Championships, which took place in Italy.

"It's great news that Henshalls have decided to make such a generous donation towards my costs, and I'm extremely grateful for their support," said Sean.

"I'm really looking forward to the Championships and hoping to bring back a medal."
