Is it an Act of God?
Shropshire holidaymakers caught up in airport chaos due to the volcanic ash cloud could find they are out of pocket.
The warning comes from Dave Williams, of Henshalls Insurance Brokers in Newport and Shrewsbury, who said travellers should check the small print on their insurance policies.
"There are no hard and fast rules, as each individual insurer seems to be taking their own view on whether to cover the incident.
"But many companies are classifying it as an 'act of God', and refusing to pay out, so each holidaymaker should pay careful attention to their own policy."
The ash cloud led to the closure of UK airports and airspace, with thousands of travellers facing delays and uncertainty about whether they would be able to travel at all.
"Some insurers say the incident isn't covered under the cancellation section of their policies, but they are covering it under the delay section," said Dave.
"Others are refusing to cover it at all, and say the travellers will have to put in a claim to the airline they were due to fly with.
"It's clear that many people will be caught up in this major incident, and it's vital that anyone who is facing uncertainty over their travel plans should assess their own individual circumstances as soon as possible."
