Company History
Henshalls Insurance Brokers is one of Shropshire’s largest independent insurance firms. Based in Newport, Shropshire, the brokerage was founded by John Henshall in 1967. We celebrate our 40th year of trading this year.

The business is based in beautiful old Georgian buildings on Newport’s impressive high street. Gower House was purchased outright by the company’s directors in 2006 to ensure the premises remained a well preserved landmark on Newport’s main thoroughfare.

The Directors
Current Directors Tony Conlon B.A. F.C.I.I, Mark Freeman (FD), Bryan Cutter and Martin Pitchford acquired the company from its founder through a Management Buy Out in 1999. Henshalls is now wholly owned by the four directors.

The Business
Henshalls Insurance Brokers is a totally independent insurance brokerage. We are not tied in to any insurance provider, nor are we a member of any brokers network. The business is recognised by the Insurance industry as a brokerage of the highest standing and integrity, enabling us to provide a first class service to our commercial and personal clients.

The Commitment to its Community
We enjoy an excellent and highly pro-active relationship with our local community. The company has long cherished and nurtured a strong sense of place amongst our 30 strong staff, many of whom live in and around the Newport area.

Following the 1999 MBO, we took a strategic decision not to pursue highly visible corporate sponsorships but to dedicate executive and employee time and financial resources to reach out and touch as many parts of its local community as possible. Henshalls aim is to deliver modest but meaningful support across a wide community base.

The culture of ‘community’ has long been celebrated by us and is evidenced by an impressive portfolio of thanks and acknowledgements from the wide and diverse range of clubs, organisations and societies that have benefited from our support.

Henshalls Corporate Social Responsibility policy is evident. The directors hold, and have held, numerous offices in local organisations, from the boards of Telford Business Against Crime, West Mercia Crimestoppers, and Business Watches, to Charities, Chambers of Commerce, Round Table, school Governors and local Sports Clubs.

The board also count themselves lucky to have staff who enjoy devoting time and effort to fund-raising events for chosen charities.
